The best and most beautiful hotels in SouthCorsica

Whether you want to explore or just relax, indulge or fill up on activities. From Ajaccio to Bonifacio, from Porto Vecchio to Cavalo, Yonder has selected the finest hotels in South Corsica.

Close your eyes. The intoxicating scents of the maquis and the steady song of the cicadas. The lazy waves kissing the sand. In the distance, a polyphonic chant. And the sun, alternately scorching and soothing: Corsica, the southern part of the island, where we long to rest for a few days of eternity.

U Capu Biancu, serenity at the end of the road

A winding road through the maquis, 20 minutes from Bonifacio. At the end, or almost at the end, you'll find U Capu Biancu, a 4-star establishment (worth 5) pampered by a passionate couple. Nestled in superb gardens above the Gulf of Santa Manza and its three beaches, it has all the makings of an address to keep to yourself. This deceptively cluttered estate features 41 rooms and suites, plus two villas for even greater privacy. After all, serenity is what you come here for.

How's thehotel?

You'll quickly feel the vacation home feel, the bohemian, wild and authentic spirit that makes this a most welcoming hotel. Its cuisine is equally astonishing. Not because most of the produce is local - when it's not from the permaculture vegetable garden - and naturally seasonal, and the jams and cakes are homemade. But because the chef, Gadio El Hadji, happily takes Corsican cuisine and, with a certain audacity, slips in flavours from Senegal, his country of origin. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy Corsican cheeses and charcuterie accompanied by an equally local wine. Between June and September, the main restaurant is joined by a straw hut overlooking the bay, just a few steps from the small beaches. There are three of them, all within easy reach (and inaccessible from anywhere other than the hotel, as they are surrounded by cliffs and scrubland), each with its own ambience: active and noisy, just in front of the paillote, a private pontoon, for kayaking or paddle-boarding; quietly laid out for daydreaming on a four-poster bed; or wild and secret, for the time of a "robinsonnade". The spa is also discreet and intimate. Ideal for a massage for two, with the scent of the maquis: the products are by Crena Care Cosmetics®, 100% natural and 100% Corsican. A swimming pool, as sublime as a lagoon, plays with its curves and shades of blue, a pool table for friends and a gym for a yoga class. We'll have to wait until Monday for the melancholy of a few polyphonies to resound in the bar.

How are the rooms?

Rooms range in size from small cocoons (16 m2) to suites (40 m2), each with its own terrace and the finest sea views. Each is an invitation to a journey of your own. Wood and copper, stone and brass, rattan and leather; colors too, from virginal white to turquoise blue, and a range of reds, oranges and yellows. Some suites boast a private heated swimming pool, while a Jacuzzi cackles in another and a fireplace crackles in yet another. Families and friends can also rent one of the 5 villas with private pool, 3 km away.

What makes the difference ?

Borrowing a kayak provided by the hotel to paddle along the cliffs and find an unspoilt beach for moments out of time.

The room to book ?

One of the villas with private pool: two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and toilet. With a garden where you can swing a hammock, a summer kitchen and its plancha, you're in for a real vacation.

Good to know ?

Tired of idleness? The owners love to share their island, whether it's for a fishing trip, a diving outing or simply a picnic in a wild cove.

5 things we loved about Capu Biancu

  • The location, overlooking the sea and buried in the scent of the maquis.
  • The fishermen's huts of the rooms and suites, and their sophisticated decor, for an intimacy conducive to rest and relaxation.
  • Inventive cuisine that never strays too far from the richness of Corsican produce and the attention paid to producers and short supply chains.
  • The beauty of the wild, unspoilt beaches, where you can indulge in activities as much as daydream in complete tranquillity.
  • A commitment to sustainability: no non-reusable plastic, dispensers for hospitality products and waste composted to feed the permaculture vegetable garden.
